People of the Global Majority (POC) Deep Dive. Sunday, July 19, 12 - 3 PM. Online Zoom Platform.

Facilitated by Porsha Beed and Aaron Johnson. This deep dive is built around people of color coming together as a disruption of the chronic patterns of scarcity and hurt we have when reaching for each other. For example, colorism and economics have historically been effective barriers that people of color often have to navigate in order to be close to each other. We want to be clear that we are committed to holding space for people of color who are white passing, and at the same time hold the complexity that comes up for folks with darker skin. In this deep dive, we want to track and hold the ways in which we’ve all been hurt. We will reach for each other through deep listening, questions, and music to remind us, as a mixed POC group, that these barriers can be dismantled. We deeply desire to live in a world where we can receive all of the support that we need within our own communities. This deep dive will center Blackness as a powerful model within white supremacy culture. By acknowledging how black people have been hurt, we also recognize how white supremacy has hurt all of us and pits us against each other. We believe that reaching for each other and building relationships is one of the most holistic resistant actions we can take and will be one of the most challenging things we will do in this work. Finding the courage to simply show up is a major disruption to systems of oppression. We are excited to begin this deep reach with you. Access Note: Holistic Resistance is committed at every opportunity to offer resource to people of color without cost. We invite white people to support through reparations and donations to care for and meet the needs of our facilitators. Contact holisticresistanceinfo@gmail.com for more info.

Deep Dive: Chronic Undertouch In Untouchable Times. Monday, July 20, 5-8 PM. Online zoom platform.

This Deep Dive is for white-identified folks. We have taken on the important conversation of building conversation and strategies to support young Black people and create an understanding of how they’ve been hurt around being chronically under-touched. We are specifically talking about caring touch from family or friends. While many different people hold stories of feeling under-touched in our culture, we are focused on the effects of how oppression and being marked as untouchable by society has had a direct impact on Black men, and how that ripples out to affect all of us. Questions we may explore:

  • What is the result of touch on the nervous system?
  • How is chronic undertouch a strategy of systemic oppression in jails and prisons and other institutions?
  • How are Black women and men affected by touch in our culture?
  • How does chronic undertouch relate to harm towards women, trans people, and queer people?
  • Are your own touch needs met? How does that impact you and others?
  • How can we disrupt with care the ways white supremacy has taught us to not connect through touch?
This Deep Dive is for white-identified folks and has a maximum of 8 participants with a minimum of two individuals. This event is about connecting and building bonds that dismantle racism. Having a small group can slow down how we see, hear, and reach for each other. Breaks will be taken as needed and we encourage participants to take care of themselves, their access needs, eat as needed, and move around when needed. The team will consist of two African heritage facilitators with two white support allies. Sliding scale for the event from $150 to $550. Please contact holisticresistanceinfo@gmail.com . YOUR REGISTRATION WILL BE CONFIRMED WITH PAYMENT. We use venmo and paypal and will email you our info when you register.

(FULL) Disrupting Our Whiteness Deep Dive: Judgment. Sunday, July 19, 12 - 3 PM. Online zoom platform.

This workshop is currently FULL and we have an active waitlist. Facilitated by Dylan Wilder Quinn and Jennie Pearl. This workshop is for white-identified folks. We know what judgment does to other relationships, but we don’t often track that in our anti-racism conversations and communities. Expressing judgment does not generally keep white people in social justice work. If we are building connection for life around anti-racism, judgment cannot be at the root of our relationships. Questions we will explore:

  • When do I jump to critique another white person?
  • How do we tend to our own judgment when it comes up?
  • How does our judgment impact People of Color?
  • How am I trying to absolve myself of white guilt?
  • What are more effective strategies in ending racism?
ABOUT DISRUPTING OUR WHITENESS DEEP DIVES: A deep dive has a maximum of eight participants with a minimum of two individuals. This event is about connecting and building bonds that dismantle racism. Having a small group can slow down how we see, hear, and reach for each other. In Holistic Resistance, we offer programming that simultaneously reaches for Blackness and whiteness. Both are key components for white people who genuinely want to join the fight to end racism. We cannot reach for blackness without a deep understanding to our own relationship to other white people and our own internalized whiteness as we reach for this work. This deep dive is for white people, and will be led by white facilitators. Holistic Resistance believes there needs to be a place for white folx to be with each other and work on our material. AND...it does not erase your work with POC led leadership and movements. We should respect this process as a portion of the work, not the complete picture. White people working with accountability is an essential piece of not putting the burden exclusively on POC to help white folx unlearn our racism. This is one part of a larger series of workshops, creative work, and actions co-created with Aaron Johnson and Porsha Beed that focus on Black liberation called Holistic Resistance. For more information visit www.holisticresistance.com. Breaks will be taken as needed and we encourage participants to take care of themselves, their access needs, eat as needed, and move around when needed. Sliding scale for the event is from $150 to $550. Please contact holisticresistanceinfo@gmail.com for payment plans and access needs for you to attend.
